Some new Christmassy things

19 November, 2020 – 3:25 pm

It takes some time before the items I carve or create are ready to go on the shelf but here are the latest things for you to see.

The words that I carve are designed directly onto the stone so that it suits the space it is in but it is also based on my hand writing and the knowledge of calligraphy that I have gained over the years. I choose colours that I hope you like but if you want you can commission something and choose the colour that you like.

My candle caves are inspired by the ice age caves and you can just imagine sitting around a campfire creating, my next ones I am going to do some carve paintings inside.

At this time of year I love creating candle holders in all forms, some simple but carefully selected stone with a hole cut into it and some with some carving. The Forest of Dean sandstone I use comes from Blakeney and this is red, Birchhill quarry which has beautiful greens and browns and Barnhill Quarry which is a lilac or grey colour.

Go away, don’t go away.

18 November, 2020 – 4:37 pm

I can finally turn my attention to the sculpture that I designed and started back in March. It was a visual feeling from that moment in time.

I don’t think that I can part with the sculpture but due to a commission being cancelled I have the perfect piece of stone and it’s bigger so this will make it easier to carve some of the smaller detail.

I obviously have quite alot on at the moment but I like to have a sculpture that I can work on over a long period of time. I’ll post more pictures as I get started but here is the original drawing and the progress that I have made so far.

More lovely carvings

16 November, 2020 – 4:46 pm

Hi peeps, I have been making the most of this latest lockdown to carve lots of lovely things for you to look at and maybe buy.

My Passion flower carving I started in 2015, I had a beautiful plant growing outside my shop, it’s in Kent now growing at my Mum and Dad’s house. I made some drawings and this is the result. It is finally finished and ready to display in my shop. I hand carved it in Portland limestone. I deliberately left the raw edge so that it looks like it has come out of an historic freeze.

The next two words that I have just carved and painted are again drawn out specific to the stone, I design them straight onto the stone so that they work with the shape. I have introduced a pop of red which I think works really well with the silver and gold. These would be fine outside.

Charity exhibition in London but not in London.

14 November, 2020 – 10:03 pm

One of the ways that I was celebrating my 15th anniversary was by taking part in an exhibition in London but obviously Covid-19 has caused us all to be creative in how we go about our daily lives.

The exhibition is now online, this ensures that the fundraising for the Worshipful Company of Masons can still go ahead. The gallery are giving all the commission which is almost 50% to the charity fund.

I have three of my broken seashell carvings available in an online exhibition which is arranged by Gallery Different in London.

I decided to choose these three carvings as they are unusual and beautiful and would suit anyone’s home or garden.

Love and Hope

13 November, 2020 – 11:11 am

During this lockdown I have been busy carving, here are few new pieces and some older ones. The calligraphy style that I use has it foundation in my own hand writing and styles that I have used and developed over the last 15 years.

I use enamel paint, mineral paint or gold leaf to finish the letters depending on what I think will look pleasing. I use a wide variety of Forest of Dean sandstone but for these carvings I have used Birchhill sandstone.

If you have any questions please get in touch.
