Cat's Eye Carving

Highnam Court Spring Fair.

I will be taking part in the mini stone carving event set in the beautiful surroundings of Highnam Court, Gloucestershire, on the 24th and 25th April 2010.

This is the clay model I will be working from!

The carvings will be auctioned off on Sunday afternoon in aid of Gloucester Cathedral and The Pied Piper appeal.

There are many more attractions, Wood carving, a Medieaval Village, Craft stalls, live music and entertainment, classic cars and much much more.

Come along, the weather forcast is good, and you never know, you may win one of the carvings! There will be about 10 of us carving so the range of carvings should be quite broad.

Carving of a Siren on the Rocks

Some of you may have seen this carving as a work in progress during last Summer, well here she is!

She is carved from Portland limestone and stands just over 2ft high by 7″ square.

The wave forms that have become a theme in my carvings are something that I am going to explore further in my next carvings.

Wave carving.

Here are the photos of the finished carving. Due to a fault in the stone, I removed about 6″ off the bottom of the block.

It is sanded to a very fine finish. I hope you like it.

Wave carving

This is a new sculpture in Tetbury limestone. It is approx 3ft high. This represents 2 days work.

I will post more photos as the carving develops.

Clay Maquettes

Here are some images of some clay models I have made for some new carvings. I would like to carve them on a large scale-2ft squarex 4ft high or long as one of them will be!

To give you some idea of scale, the 2 upright models sit on a 5″ piece of stone, and the reclining figure is on 2 next to each other.
