The Gloucester Stone Carving Festival

18 August, 2013 – 4:15 pm

I am pleased to say that the Sun was shining when I handed over £1635 to Jeremy Williamson, The Chairman of The Llanthony Secunda Priory Trust.

Thanks to the £1500 raised from the sale of raffle tickets for my Mermaid carving and the money raised from the auction of all the carvings created over The Whitsun Bank Holiday Weekend. A profit of just over £2500 which was divided between The Llanthony Secunda Priory Trust (£1635) and The Gloucester Geology Trust (£1090)

There is extensive work to be done on The priory buildings and unfortunately it was recently broken into and suffered some water damage from the thieves tearing out copper pipes.

There are plans to take the ground level back to it’s original height particularly around the stables and along the canal side, when the canal was dug they just dumped the contents on the side thereby covering the existing archaeology and jumbling up what they took out of the canal basin. It is a very exciting undertaking and I look forward to having a hands on role as well as helping with the fundraising.

Look out for the next Stone Carving Festival returning in 2015.
