Inspired by Ferns

5 August, 2013 – 9:47 pm

Here are the final photos of my latest sculpture. I have used a piece of  Tetbury Limestone and finely sanded the surface, it feels like silk to the touch.

It has the fine flowing lines that I love to carve and was inspired by the unfurling of plants in particular Ferns. It stands approximately 18inches high, it is about 11 inches wide and 8 inches deep. This carving costs £980

I have given it a simple Forest of Dean sandstone base, plain and square, not wanting to detract from my carving.

It has beautiful swirls in the stone as I carved it diagonally bedded to accentuate the pattern. I love this carving and look forward to getting on with the next one.

  2. Love your latest carving!
How much is it? It would look great by our fishpond, or does it need to be under cover?
The form is amazing and reminds me somewhat of an octopus.

  5. This would be ideal for outside and the Sandstone base it comes could be sunk in to the ground. There are 2 stainless steel bars enabling this sculpture to remain steady.
