New Sculptures
12 October, 2009 – 4:12 pmWell the lack of commissions has an up-side, I am able to work through some of my ideas.
You may have seen my sculpture ‘July’ I am currently working along the theme of water and movement. My latest sculpture again using Delabole slate and Tetbury limestone features a sphere of limestone with the ripples carved in the slate-as though the sphere is rolling through a puddle causing bow waves.
The next one along this train of thought will incorporate stainless steel, limestone and slate.
I will post pictures as I work on them.

I’ve always found it strange to see slate being carved like that. Whenever I think about slate as a material, I see it as the brittle stuff you see on church roofs.
Seeing the way you’ve carved those wave patterns into it is a bit like eating a bag of salt and vinegar Quavers for me! Your mind thinks one thing but your senses tell you another. Strange! 😀

Thank you for your comment Ed, it’s surprising the way some of my carvings can sometimes look like or remind people of food. Maybe I should look into that as an idea thread.
